SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Craigslist’s pet-focused pet market was worth $5.6 billion in 2013, up from $4.6 million a year earlier, according to a new study by the National Association of Realtors.
The market is poised to surpass $1 billion by 2019, making it the largest U.S. pet market, according in a study released Tuesday by the association.
That would mark the first time the number of pets in the U. S. market has reached that milestone.
The study found the pet industry was growing at a rate of 9.5% a year over the past decade.
A lot of that growth came from the growth of new markets, such as online classifieds, and the growth in breeders and breeders of pets, the study said.
Pet owners are spending more time with their pets than ever before, and many are using their pets as pets for pleasure, recreation and as a social companion, the report said.
It also found the U!
S.
market grew 5% from 2012 to 2013.
The market has also seen a surge in pets with disabilities and in people with disabilities who are seeking homes for their pets.
The U!s pet industry is expected to grow 7% from 2016 to 2021, the association’s study said, noting that there are more than 1.3 million pets in homes with more than one owner, which is an increase of more than 15% over 2012.
